In a game against one of the Cubs' main rivals, the Milwaukee Brewers, Soto slammed two three-run home runs into the crowd proving that he was a great asset to the Boys in Blue. In the same year, he was half of the no hitter game, calling the shots while Carlos Zambrano struck out every fool with a bat that stepped up to the plate. Yes, 2008 was the year Geovany Soto stepped into the spotlight and helped bring the fame and glory to Wrigley Field. After a momentous performance throughout the rest of the 2008 season, Soto was rewarded with the Major League Baseball Rookie of the Year award. He proves that catchers do more than crouch behind home plate and give signals; catchers are half of the pitching practice and can slam baseballs far into the bleachers. Geovany Soto is a prime catcher, a great hitter and a crucial element to the great baseball team that is the Chicago Cubs. Thank goodness he's behind the plate at Wrigley Field, making sure Ryan Dempster, Casey Coleman and Matt Garza know what to throw in order to get strikes and win the game.
