The most die-hard, "bleed Cubbie blue", season ticket-holding Cubs fan does not hold a candle to the passion, dedication and love that Ron Santo had for the Chicago Cubs. He was na stellar third baseman for the Cubs for thirteen of his fourteen years in professional baseball. After his baseball career ended, he refused to end his life with baseball. Instead of finding a team to coach or a comfy chair to sit in and debate sports news with other commentators, Ron Santo went to where he had left his heart: The Chicago Cubs. He became a play-by-play announcer and worked with the official voices of the Chicago Cubs: Steve Stone, Bob Brenly and the greatest voice of all, Harry Caray. It was not only his fanaticism and devotion that made him so wonderful to the fans at Wrigley; his dedication to the game and his time on third base at Wrigley Field has made him a neglected contender for the Baseball Hall of Fame. Chicago Cubs fans, statisticians, and baseball enthusiasts agree that it is time for Ron Santo to be honored with a place in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Ron Santo defined what it was to be a player, a fan and an all-around good person. He will never be forgotten and his high spirits will always be missed in Wrigley.
